Apple’s native mail client is far from ideal. The company has made changes and improvements over the years, but admittedly it is far from being the perfect email client, which is why many other third-party email clients continue to exist and are popular choices for Apple’s macOS platform.

However, if you’re primarily a Gmail user, then you might be interested in checking out this new native Gmail client for macOS. Dubbed Mimestream, this is an app developed by Neil Jhaveri, a former Apple engineer who actually worked on the default Mail app that comes bundled with the operating system.

One of the benefits of Mimestream over other clients is that it uses the Gmail API instead of IMAP. This means that in addition to being able to pull your Gmail emails, it will also be able to take advantage of other Gmail features. This includes categorized inboxes, automatically synced aliases and signatures, labels integration, and more.

It will also support Google Drive, multiple Gmail accounts, and a unified inbox. There are also system-level notifications and Dark Mode support, along with gestures, tracking prevention, and more. Mimestream is currently available for free while in beta, but a paid version will be making its way to the Mac App Store later.
