The commonly observed P0871 Date Trouble Code (DTC) is generated because of leaks into the overdrive circuit but are still, in some measure, responsible for the burnt overdrive clutches BD see’s on a daily basis. Removes P0846, P0871, P0888 and other erroneous automatic transmission failure codes present in Mopar Stage 2 with toys and all Stage 3 kits. Toybox 2.0 Adds DAB and HOM functions to Mopar Stage 3 without toys kits.
P0871 is the OBD-II generic code for a fault involving the pressure of the fluid inside of the transmission. This could mean that there is too much pressure inside of the transmission or that there. Code P0871 usually sets when the overdrive switch circuit voltage remains at zero volts in 1st through 3rd gears. This usually indicates a valve body problem. Hydraulic P0871 If a crossleak develops in the valve body and closes the overdrive pressure switch, the reference voltage will again drop to zero volts. The commonly observed P0871 Date Trouble Code (DTC) is generated because of leaks into the overdrive circuit but are still, in some measure, responsible for the burnt overdrive clutches BD see’s on a daily basis. “The code is triggered when the pressure switch in the solenoid pack detects pressure in the circuit when it shouldn’t,” said.
There may be a transmission performance concern on some 2014-2017 Spark models equipped with the CVT7 continuously variable-ratio automatic transmission (RPOs M4M, MR8). (Fig. 12) The Check Engine MIL may be illuminated and DTCs P0871 (Transmission Fluid Pressure Switch 3 System Performance) and P2714 (Pressure Control Solenoid Valve 4 Stuck Off—Hydraulic/Mechanical Problem) may be set in the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
P0871 Od Pressure Switch Rationality
If DTCs P0871 and P2714 are set in the TCM, clear the codes and road test the vehicle. If the codes do not reset, no repairs should be made.
Fig. 12
When either DTC P0871 or P2714 sets, the TCM commands the auxiliary gearbox into 2nd gear. If the codes do reset after the road test, replace the transmission fluid pressure switch. Refer to the appropriate Service Information.
Replacing the Switch
After removing the control valve body cover, remove the fluid strainer from the control valve body and discard the O-ring from the fluid strainer. A new O-ring must be installed to the fluid strainer.
P0871 Od Pressure Switch Rationality
Two fluid pressure switch harness bracket bolts secure the switch. Disconnect the fluid pressure switch connector to remove the switch from the control valve body. (Fig. 13)

When reinstalling the control valve body cover, do not reuse the gasket. Install the 14 cover bolts by hand and then tighten all bolts to specification in the specified sequence. (Fig. 14)

Currently, the transmission fluid pressure switch must be ordered from the Warranty Parts Center (WPC). Refer to #PIP5521A for the necessary order form and for additional information.
