Statement by the Chairman of Belfast Celtic,
Mr James Gillen
It is hard to believe Belfast Celtic is 2 years old and yet it still has to complete a full season of football. It has been a long time from we met each other up at ‘Páric Na gCeiltigh’, Glen Road Heights, and the announcement of the season 2020/21 being declared null & void brings more disappointment to us.

Let us not forget what an amazing start we made as Belfast Celtic. Stephen McAlorum & Paddy Kelly have transformed the standard of football from a depleted relegated team. They along with the backroom staff have built a formidable squad that has exceeded all our expectations. In the beginning, we had those who doubted our intentions and those who questioned our logic, but we as a board always said we would let our football do the talking, and I would suggest we have silenced the critics, 2 cup semi-finalists and an amazing league campaign. It is no wonder many in local football are beginning to respect us.
Of course, we are not just one team. Congratulations to Patrick McLaughlin and the reserves who bagged our first trophy by winning the BPL div 3 title. Our numbers grew with the addition of an under 18 team who along with our talented U15’s, now moving up to U16’s, are tomorrow’s stars! Yesterday’s stars are still going strong and it’s great to see some old faces come along to play for our over 35’s .

At the centre of the clubs plan’s is a development project at ‘Páric Na gCeiltigh’, Glen Road Heights. Much groundwork has been undertaken over the last few years. The 1st phase of the project includes a state-of-the art 4g Pitch with Floodlights, New Stands, Perimeter fencing, plus Additional Spectator facilities & groundwork improvements. Phase 2, well we’ll all have to wait for another day, but the plans are being worked upon, and will be released soon.

We have a bright future ahead of us and we cannot wait to share our plans in more detail with you but for now, we need your support to keep the club operating. If we have learnt anything from the last 40 years as Sport & Leisure to Belfast Celtic, is that we cannot sustain a football club without us all contributing to its success on and off the field.
We need new volunteers, academy kids, coaches, sponsors, and fundraisers for next season. We are a community interest club (CIC) which means we are a ‘Not for Profit’, club. Whatever we earn is re-invested back into the club for the benefit of everyone, we also need new voices on our committees and board to help shape our future. We need the next generation of leaders to come to the fore and prepare to take over the reins.
The pandemic has affected us all and when we get through it, and we will, we want to be at the forefront of community regeneration, to bring happy days back through sport, community spirit and unity.

If we build it, they will come.
